Addicted
The flesh forgets
As the blood forgives
The persuasive needle
Piercing the arm…
…pentrating…
Liquid fire, liquid ice,
Seeps through the eye,
Seeking a pathway
To the brain…
…to the heart…
Addiction.
Loving you isn’t easy,
And thus I take you
In again…
…again…
I feel the pleasure
And block the pain,
While you pierce my heart
Again…
…again…
This poem was written during my college days in the 1980s. I guess it was self-reflection on continuing a relationship that I knew wasn’t good for me. Why do young women do that to themselves, stay in relationships that they know aren’t right?
