Winter
What happens to the flowers
When winter sets in?
To where do they go,
What do they see?
Please, tell me now,
For the sun has stopped shining
And winter is on its way.
What happens to the birds
When winter sets in?
To where do they fly,
What do they see?
Please, tell me now,
For the sun has stopped shining
And winter is at my gate.
I know what happens
When winter sets in.
I know where they hide,
I know what they see.
I can tell you now
For the sun has stopped shining
And winter has become a part of me.

Written in the mid-1990s during my ‘year of confusion’ (I really wrote a lot during that year!) When this poem was written, I was pretty sad, thinking life and relationships weren’t working out the way I wanted them to, and I was feeling ‘cold’ inside.
